Mitt Romney is a liar
Yeah, the headline is rather blunt. I suppose I could have been kinder and said, "Mitt Romney is mistaken" or "misinformed" or "deceptive". The truth is he is neither misinformed nor mistaken. He's wrong. If he doesn't know he's wrong, then he is a hopelessly ignorant man.
But he knows he's wrong. And that makes him a liar.
Mitt Romney claims that President Obama has gutted Welfare Reform work requirements. This has been proven to be false by news sources, fact check sites, and journalists everywhere. For Romney to continue to say this when he knows it is untrue proves that he is a liar.
Mitt Romney claims that President Obama is "stealing" $716 Billion from Medicare for seniors. It is clear from fact check sites, the CBO, and responsible journalists as well as a reading of the ACA, that the $716 Billion is expected savings from reducing OVERPAYMENTS to providers and DOES NOT reduce benefits to patients. The Ryan budget contains the EXACT SAME savings, but Romney doesn't call that stealing. He doesn't even acknowledge that those reductions in Medicare costs exist. Romney knows this, so he's lying. Worse yet, while ACA uses the savings to expand health care insurance coverage and reduces the Medicare Part D donut hole expenses for seniors, the Ryan plan uses the savings to reduce tax rates for the wealthy.
Romney says that his Medicare plan will not affect anyone who is currently on Medicare or who is over 55 years old. But Romney's plan is to immediately repeal ACA which would eliminate the benefits to current seniors of the closure of the Medicare Part D donut hole closure. So Romney is lying when he claims people over 55 won't be affected by his overhaul of Medicare.
Romney claims that "Obamacare" includes a "death panel" known as the IPAB consisting of 15 "unelected and unaccountable" bureaucrats who will determine how to ration health care. In fact, the IPAB members are appointed by the President and CONFIRMED by the Senate. Its mission is to develop recommendations to reduce Medicare costs and the law specifically states ""The proposal shall not include any recommendation to ration health care, raise revenues or Medicare beneficiary premiums under section 1818, 1818A, or 1839, increase Medicare beneficiary cost sharing (including deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments), or otherwise restrict benefits or modify eligibility criteria." In other words, no rationing; no death penalty. Romney is lying.
These are just four of the most recent lies perpetrated by Mitt Romney. For a more comprehensive list, check out Rachel Maddow's blog chronicling Mitt's mendacity. Note this is volume 23.
